Our Resurrected Life will be Completely Different

Sunday, November 10, 2019

We ask God, in our opening prayer this weekend, to “keep from us all adversity.” We ask this so that we may carry out in “freedom of
heart” the things that are God’s. We pray that we may always honor the “passion of Christ” with loving devotion. St. Paul prays for the Thessalonians in our second reading. He asks that they might be strengthened in what they say and do as they respond to the Lord. He then asks that they pray for those who walk with him in his ministry of evangelization.

You will notice a similar theme in the responsorial today. The psalmist expresses confidence that the Lord will strengthen and protect the community. The Gospel passage from St. Luke tells us that our resurrected life will be completely different from what we know in this life. In the life to come, we will be transformed like the Risen Christ.

The brothers in our first reading from Maccabees are brave martyrs, who choose death rather than disobey the law of the Lord. Encouraged by their mother, these men affirm their belief in being raised up by God after their death.

Take time this week to pray for the strength to remain faithful to the Lord, especially in times of adversity. We continue to prayer for those who have died that they may know the fullness of life with the Risen Christ.Have a blessed week! Fr. Len
