Happy Independence Day!
Sunday, July 5, 2020
In today’s Gospel, Jesus invites us to take his yoke upon our shoulders. He then calls on us to work with him to bring God’s love into the world. We renew our commitment to live as Jesus calls us in the Eucharist. God gives us this wonderful gift to sustain us as we, “Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord.”
Jesus reveals that God is never far from us; God is very much with us all the time. God is personal, loving and involved in our lives. Jesus himself embodies both wisdom and humility, and for those who will follow his example, he promises rest. In this case rest does not mean inactivity; it means peace of mind, and renewed energy.
Many people carry heavy burdens, especially the poor. Jesus offers to share their burden and ours. He also gives us the opportunity to assist him. Are we willing to share these burdens? Jesus assures us that he will help us if we turn to him. The Lord is kind and merciful.
Happy Independence Day! As we celebrate this special day, we do so during a pandemic. Join me in doing all we can to keep each other healthy and safe.
Have a blessed week! Fr. Len
